2017 Bond Open House – Austin High School

Austin ISD is hosting a series of informational open houses to learn more about the 2017 Bond and how it could affect each campus.

This Tuesday, October 3rd will be at Austin High School from 5:30-7:30p.m. The meeting is designed as a come-and-go format, with presentations at 5:45 p.m. and at 6:45 p.m.

Child care, light refreshments and simultaneous Spanish presentations will take place at all meetings. For campus-specific information, please visit our bond projects page and choose a school from one of the dropdown menus.

Nos complace anunciarles que la Mesa Directiva aprobó el nombramiento de la Sra. Alicia Hill como directora de la Escuela Primaria Zilker. La Sra. Hill es actualmente la subdirectora de la Escuela Primaria Doss, en donde ella ha demostrado su dedicación a los niños y la importancia que le da a establecer relaciones sólidas con los estudiantes y las familias. Ella apoya totalmente la esencia de la iniciativa del niño en su totalidad, y al mismo tiempo ofrece el liderazgo educativo que la escuela Zilker ha disfrutado y que le permitirá a Zilker continuar teniendo un sólido desempeño académico.

Durante su trabajo en el Distrito Escolar Independiente de Austin por más de 15 años, la Sra. Hill ha sido maestra en tres escuelas primarias en diferentes grados desde kínder hasta el 5.o grado. Ella tiene un título profesional de estudios de Primera infancia y una maestría como Profesora de Lectura. También trabajó como Directora de la escuela de verano de ciencias.

La Sra. Hill se siente honrada de haber sido nominada como la directora de la Escuela Primaria Zilker. AISD Names Alicia Hill as Principal of Zilker Elementary

Dear Zilker Elementary School Students, Parents, Faculty and Staff,

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of Ms. Alicia Hill as the Principal of Zilker Elementary School. Ms. Hill currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Doss Elementary School, where she has evidenced her focus on children and the priority she places on establishing strong relationships with students and families. She fully embraces the spirit of the whole-child initiative while providing the instructional leadership that Zilker has enjoyed and which will continue the strong academic performance of Zilker.

During her 15-plus years with the Austin Independent School District, Ms. Hill has taught on three elementary campuses, grades ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade. She has earned her Early Childhood certification and is a Master Reading Teacher. She served as Science Summer School Principal as well.

Ms. Hill is honored to be named the Principal of Zilker Elementary School. She has or will attend several events on the Zilker campus today, May 23, and there will be various other opportunities to meet and get to know Ms. Hill as your new principal for 2017-18. Thank you for welcoming her and thank you for your strong support of Zilker and your students. Ms. Hill is looking forwarding to meeting you and to serving as your principal.

AISD Budget Community Conversations

Austin ISD will be holding a Budget Community Conversations series of public meetings April 26 and 27 to inform the public on the proposed 2017-18 budget.

Join the live, interactive broadcast April 27 from 6–7:30 p.m. from the comfort of your home or participate online!

Tune in online at AISD.TV, channel 22, on Roku or on AT&T U-verse channel 99. Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley Johnson will present the preliminary AISD budget, and the community will be able to ask the CFO questions via Twitter, email or phone.

Community members are also invited to attend the April 27 live broadcast in person at the Carruth Administration Center.

In addition to the broadcast, the district will hold two meetings during the day. The first meeting is 1–2 p.m. April 26 at the AISD Performing Arts Center. The second is 1–2 p.m. April 27 at the Baker Center cafeteria.

Refreshments and interpretation services will be provided at all meetings.

Letter from O. Henry Middle School’s New Principal

Greetings Parents and Families of O. Henry Middle School,

My name is Marlo Malott and I’m extremely happy to join the staff of OHMS as the new Principal. I’m very passionate about education and I look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality middle school experience. As the parent of two children age 17 and 20, I recognize the importance of a strong home-to-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.

Before joining OHMS, I served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles. Some of the roles I have held include middle school and high school classroom teacher, athletic coach, Instructional Strategist, Assistant Principal, Academic Dean and Academy Director. My academic background includes a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelor of Science in Education with certifications in K-12 English Language Arts and Science.

I believe that great schools are the results of great teachers and innovative programming, so my primary objective will be to ensure that every student is receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher at OHMS. In order to do this, I will be providing teachers with feedback on their instruction, access to professional development, and reaching out to parents for support with academic and behavioral concerns to ensure our students are prepared for college and 21st century careers.

I will be working closely with our Assistant Principals to guarantee that all of our scholars are intellectually challenged and have access to the social and emotional support critical to students during the middle school years. Join us for a FREE educational event which reinforces your student’s
science skills like classification, observation, and inference.  An event
with hands-on activities.  An event with real, live bugs!!

Insect Expo in Austin on April 10th !!

The Southwestern Branch Entomological Society of America
(http://entsoc.org/southwestern/swb-insect-expo) present this free,
activity-oriented learning experience for third – fifth graders.  Students
will be given opportunities to interact with professional entomologists as
they participate in a wide variety of educational stations designed to
educate about the most numerous, widespread, and diverse group of organisms on earth:  Insects!

•       Experience interactive exhibits and demonstrations
•       See and touch the live insect petting zoo
•       Find out what adaptations have allowed insects to be so successful
•       Learn how the vast majority of insects are beneficial
•       Discover how each insect has its special place in the ecosystem
