November 30 – The holiday tree is a beloved tradition at Zilker! It is festive, colorful and meant to honor any and all cultures in our community. We will be putting up the holiday tree and decorations in the lobby after school on Monday. We will also be working on the bulletin board behind the tree. If anyone has anything special regarding their family’s holiday tradition and would like it featured on the tree or on the bulletin board, please bring it to the office this week.
December 2 – The Arts in Education committee meeting will be held on Wednesday at 3pm in the teacher’s lounge. Our focus is to get a set-up and tear-down plan in place for the Festival of Lights Holiday Sing Along, which is on Friday, December 11th. This is one of Arts in Ed’s biggest events and it is a lot of fun. We will need volunteers to hang lights and decorations every afternoon the week of the event and especially the day of the event. We also need extension cords and a generator. Lots of extension cords! Please contact Tricia Dew, the Arts in Ed chair (firstname.lastname@example.org), if you are able to lend some time or any of the aforementioned items. Be sure to label your items so we can get them back to you.
December 11 – Ms. Garcia and our Panther Choir will be visiting some local businesses on the annual Panther Caroling Tour during the day.
Later that evening…
A favorite Zilker tradition, The Festival of Lights Holiday Sing Along, is Friday, December 11th from 6-8pm.
Ms. Garcia has been working with all the grades on some wonderful holiday classics, as well as some beautiful cultural holiday music from around the world. It will be fun, festive and fabulous! This performance will be outside on the front lawn, so dress warmly if it’s chilly! In the case of inclement weather, we will move the performance inside to the cafeteria.
Food vendors and hot chocolate will be available for purchase. We will have a cookie-sharing table, as well, so please bring some cookies to share! The cookie table will be located on the deck in the front of the school. Santa will also be making an appearance, so make sure your phones/cameras are charged and ready!
Lastly, we will need some volunteers that evening to help with some of the stations and getting the kids on and off the risers, as well as helping to decorate the front lawn prior to the performance. If you can help for a short shift, please contact Jennifer Caudle, our PTA volunteer coordinator (email@example.com), or Tricia Dew, our Arts in Education Chair (firstname.lastname@example.org). Be sure to check the program schedule beforehand, so you don’t sign up when your child is performing. Happy Holidays!
