New Faculty Members for 2015-16!

Dear Zilker Families,

As many of you already know, we had six faculty/staff positions to fill for the coming year.  Five current employees are retiring or resigning to pursue other interests, and we added a second part-time reading specialist to our roster.  We have completed all interviews, we have recommended candidates for all positions, and Human Resources has offered the positions to our recommended candidates.  They have all accepted!  Join me, then, in welcoming the following individuals to Zilkerland for the 2015-2016 school year!

1st Grade–ESL… Lauren Booth (currently teaching 2nd grade in Virginia)

3rd Grade–bilingual… Scarlett Davis (recently completed her student teaching with Tracy Rakusin here at Zilker; graduating from UT later this month)

4th Grade–bilingual… Deirdre Nic Ruairi (currently teaching 3rd grade at Houston Elementary here in AISD; parent of two Zilker Panthers)

Special Education–SCORES… Jennifer Marshall (currently a SCORES teacher at Brooke Elementary in AISD)

Librarian… Rebecca Sharp (currently a librarian at an elementary school in Leander ISD; and guess what… she’s a Red Raider!  Go Tech!)

Reading Specialist / Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT)… Meredith Dayon (currently a 5th grade teacher at Bryker Woods Elementary in AISD)

We are so happy to be fully staffed for next year and thrilled that these folks are joining our Zilker team!

–Randy Thomson, Principal

From the Librarian

Dear Zilker Families,

I am about to turn a page and start a new chapter in my life. Yes, I will be retiring at the end of this year. I have always said that I landed right the first time, as my entire library career of 32 years has been spent at Zilker. It is hard to imagine that I have been the librarian for almost 1/2 of Zilker’s 65 year existence!

This school means so much to me, both personally and professionally. Our children attended here, my husband was a past PTA president, and we have made many friends through parents and faculty. Being surrounded by such incredible teachers and administration through the years has made it a joy to come to work each day. Working with students has brought me special pleasure and it is my hope that I have instilled in them the desire to be lifelong learners. I feel privileged and honored to have spent my professional career with such fine children and their parents.

Please plan on joining your child(ren) during Track and Field Days on May 20th and 21st. I will be at the BOOKWOMAN BOOGIE station. I’d love to have you help me dance my way into retirement!

Zilker is a GREAT place for kids…and librarians, too!
