We’re having a pop-up taco sale Friday, May 12th at 7:15a in front of Zilker Elementary. We’ll have $2 breakfast tacos and $1 coffees on offer ’til we sell out. First come, first served! Come quick, hang out as long as you like, and be sure to bring cash money — this sale is CASH ONLY!!!
The Pop-up Taco Sale is brought to you by the 5th grade with delicious donations from our very on Fresa’s! All proceeds to benefit graduation day shenanigans. Remember folks: Breakfast tacos are the most important meal of the day. They make great Mother’s Day gifts, too!!
Also mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 16th!!  Fresa’s will be having a fundraiser at their South First location where part of the profits will go to our school. Thank you, Fresa’s, for supporting Zilker!

String Camp for 4th and 5th Graders at Austin High

The Austin High School String Camp is a fun event for 4th and 5th graders! Students will spend the day learning the basics of how to play a string instrument. No previous experience necessary!

Registration begins at 9:00 am

O. Henry Band & Orchestra Instrument Selection for Future Mustangs

 

The O. Henry Middle School Band and Orchestra cordially invite all 5th graders to join our award-winning fine arts program. It is already time to start choosing electives for 2016-2017.  On Wednesday, January 27, from 4:30 – 6:30 PM, students will have the opportunity to try string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments under the supervision of music specialists. This is a come-and-go-as-you-please event and no registration is required.  The entire selection process takes 20- 25 minutes. Afterwards, students will then be scheduled into the appropriate music class for next school year.

No previous music training is necessary and school owned instruments are available for most sections. Students who already have one year of band or orchestra instruction do not need to attend this session. If you are unable to attend this session, please contact one of the directors to set up an individual appointment. Mr. Pinkney is the Band Director and can be reached at sedric.pinkney@austinisd.org. Mr. Solis is the Orchestra Director and can be reached at fidencio.solis@austinisd.org.

We invite all of Zilker Elementary’s 5th grade students and parents to our Magnet Parent Information Night on November 3rd, 2015 in the Fulmore Middle School Cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Our presentation will give students and parents the opportunity to learn about Fulmore’s Magnet Program and the application process. Fall Teacher Appreciation Lunch

We will give thanks to the wonderful teachers of Zilker on Thursday, October 29 with a potluck style lunch with the help of Zilker families. If you have a child in 1st, 3rd, or 5th grade, please bring a food item to the Teacher’s Lounge on 10/29 by 10 AM.  Families with Pre-K, PPCD, K, 2nd, and 4th graders will have the chance to bring food for our appreciation lunch in Spring.

Please see the list below to see what to bring:

  • 1st grade: Please bring entrees/main dishes
  • 3rd grade: Please bring entrees/main dishes or any kind of salad
  • 5th grade: Please bring a dessert or side dish

Please label your dish with your name and the name of your child’s teacher and pick up your dish at the end of the day or the following morning.  Thanks for your support in making our teachers feel special!

So far, 30 spots have been sold for the 5th Grade Dance Party Fundraiser to be held this Friday, May 1 at 6:30pm-9:30pm in the Zilker Cafeteria.  Additional spots are still available for 5th graders only at $30 each.  All of the funds raised will be used directly on 5th grade graduation activities.  This parent chaperoned event will include pizza, drinks and snacks and a movie/dance party.  If your child would like to attend and cost is an issue, please speak with your teacher and something will be arranged .  For more information or to reserve your spot, contact Missy Nathan at melissa.nathan@blueavocado.com or Sherrill Kelley atsherrill.beardkelley@gmail.com. Fifth Grade Parent Graduation Meeting

Please join us in the cafteria on Thursday, April 23 at 7:45 AM in the cafeteria for a brief meeting about upcoming 5th grade graduation activities.  Topics to be discused include:

  1. 5th Grade Legancy Project
  2. 5th Grade Graduation Ceremony
  3. Last Day of School Party
  4. 5th Grade Field Trip to Zilker Park and
  5. Teacher Gifts.

O. Henry Prospective Parent Open House

Henry gym.  Administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, and students will share the O. Henry “story”, why the campus became a Texas and national School to Watch in 2012, and answer any questions parents have.

Letter from the 5th Grade Team – We Are Zilker!

Dear Zilker Families,

Technology is a big thing on our campus, and an ongoing need.  Our 5th grade students use technology to research-all the time! Each week, we also go to the Computer Lab to work on Learning.com. We participate in Think Through Math, an online math program provided by AISD. At the end of 5th grade, we take a district required assessment on our technology skills to ensure that we are prepared for our years in middle and high school.  We also get to learn to make stop animation films for enrichment. As we prepare to be employable in the next decade, we need plenty of practice on 21st century skills for us to be successful. Help us get the tools we need!

This year we’ve started the Zilker Fund with the We Are Zilker campaign.  In 2014, the fund is dedicated to technology.  Through contributions from parents and friends, we help our children expand their expertise and capabilities with new, dynamic programs and tools.  We do some fun and exciting things, but we can do more to help our kids as they explore technology and transform the world.

As a team, we encourage you to contribute and leave a legacy here at Zilker.  It will always be a great place for your children.  Help make their memories incredible this year by donating and supporting the school we all love dearly.  We are Zilker.  Together, we ALL make Zilker “a great place for kids!”
