The Austin High School String Camp is a fun event for 4th and 5th graders! Students will spend the day learning the basics of how to play a string instrument. No previous experience necessary!

O. Henry Band & Orchestra Instrument Selection for Future Mustangs
The O. Henry Middle School Band and Orchestra cordially invite all 5th graders to join our award-winning fine arts program. It is already time to start choosing electives for 2016-2017. On Wednesday, January 27, from 4:30 – 6:30 PM, students will have the opportunity to try string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments under the supervision of music specialists. This is a come-and-go-as-you-please event and no registration is required. The entire selection process takes 20- 25 minutes. Afterwards, students will then be scheduled into the appropriate music class for next school year.
No previous music training is necessary and school owned instruments are available for most sections. Students who already have one year of band or orchestra instruction do not need to attend this session. If you are unable to attend this session, please contact one of the directors to set up an individual appointment. We invite all of Zilker Elementary’s 5th grade students and parents to our Magnet Parent Information Night on November 3rd, 2015 in the Fulmore Middle School Cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Our presentation will give students and parents the opportunity to learn about Fulmore’s Magnet Program and the application process. We will give thanks to the wonderful teachers of Zilker on Thursday, October 29 with a potluck style lunch with the help of Zilker families. If you have a child in 1st, 3rd, or 5th grade, please bring a food item to the Teacher’s Lounge on 10/29 by 10 AM. Families with Pre-K, PPCD, K, 2nd, and 4th graders will have the chance to bring food for our appreciation lunch in Spring.

So far, 30 spots have been sold for the 5th Grade Dance Party Fundraiser to be held this Friday, May 1 at 6:30pm-9:30pm in the Zilker Cafeteria. Additional spots are still available for 5th graders only at $30 each. All of the funds raised will be used directly on 5th grade graduation activities. This parent chaperoned event will include pizza, drinks and snacks and a movie/dance party. If your child would like to attend and cost is an issue, please speak with your teacher and something will be arranged . All prospective O. Henry parents are invited to an orientation on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., in the O. Henry gym. Administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, and students will share the O. Henry “story”, why the campus became a Texas and national School to Watch in 2012, and answer any questions parents have.
Dear Zilker Families,
Technology is a big thing on our campus, and an ongoing need. Our 5th grade students use technology to research-all the time! Each week, we also go to the Computer Lab to work on Learning.com. We participate in Think Through Math, an online math program provided by AISD. At the end of 5th grade, we take a district required assessment on our technology skills to ensure that we are prepared for our years in middle and high school. We also get to learn to make stop animation films for enrichment. As we prepare to be employable in the next decade, we need plenty of practice on 21st century skills for us to be successful. Help us get the tools we need!
This year we’ve started the Zilker Fund with the We Are Zilker campaign. In 2014, the fund is dedicated to technology. Through contributions from parents and friends, we help our children expand their expertise and capabilities with new, dynamic programs and tools. We do some fun and exciting things, but we can do more to help our kids as they explore technology and transform the world.
As a team, we encourage you to contribute and leave a legacy here at Zilker. It will always be a great place for your children.
