Looking to Donate to our Monarch Garden?

Thanks for your time and support making our Zilker Monarch garden great! We couldn’t do it without you. While the National Wildlife Fund (NWF) is so generous with the grant we received, we dream BIG here at Zilker, and we are still on the prowl for some other supplies. If you feel like you’d be interested in donating, check out our Amazon Wish List! It’s a hefty list, but we know we have such great community support to make these big dreams come true!

We are looking for things like insect habitats, new picnic tables, a rain barrel, etc. If you’d be more interested in purchasing an amazon gift card to make some of the bigger purchases happen, we would be very appreciate of that, as well!

Contact Miss Phillips in room 401 if you have any questions! Here’s the link to our list- thanks again, Zilker!

  • Prep Jabo’s Garden for fall plantings – weed, mow, and tidy
  • Clean up the library garden – weed and remove dead and overgrown plants
  • Weed and prep classroom garden boxes
More hands make for faster/lighter the work! And it’s a great chance to visit with your friends while helping our campus!

Where: Zilker Elementary, meet at Jabo’s Garden (behind the left wing of the main school building)

Monarchs Are Coming To Zilker!

Our school has received a grant from the National Wildlife Federation, and we are so excited to announce that we will be building a monarch garden! This will take place in the grassy area between the kindergarten and 5th grade hallways. In order to ensure the success of this habitat, we need your help! At this time, we are in need of the following items:

  • large, broken-down cardboard
  • gardening soil
  • pebble rock
  • water hoses
  • 4 inch river rock
  • 2 foot by 4 foot large stone boulders
  • gardening tools/watering cans

If you are able to donate any of these items, please bring them in as soon as possible to Miss Phillips’ room 401! (If they are large, we can find a spot in the garden to store them.)

Please join us Saturday, October 14 from 8:00am- 11:00am, when we will be breaking ground and prepping our habitat site! We are in the beginning stages of this amazing project, and as we get farther in our planning, more information will be available. Stayed tuned for updates! If you have any questions, feel free to contact madison.phillips@austinisd.org or patricia.russell@austinisd.org. Thank you for the support!

Zilker is a great place for butterflies!–

Thank you from Jabo’s Garden!

Jabo’s Garden would like to send out one last thank you to everyone who helped make this a wonderful year for us. If you volunteered with your class, came to a farm stand, pulled some weeds, or just stopped by to enjoy the space, we truly appreciate you sharing your energy with us. Extra thanks should go to our 4th grade teachers and students for running the farm stands, Odd Duck, Dolce Neve and our PTA for supporting us, Lauren Maples at PEAS for teaching all of our students, Trim & Proper for donating so many wonderful plants, and of course, thank you to Jabo! We wouldn’t be here today without your wonderful vision.
