Holiday Lights Around The World – Thursday Night!

Hello Zilker Families,

I wanted to provide you some detailed information concerning Holiday Lights Around the World on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm.

We highly encourage attendees to dress in clothing that represent countries all around the world. This is a chance to get creative and share conversations that celebrate cultural diversity. You could wear items of clothing/accessories that are made in other countries, choose the color scheme of a flag, dress as a notable person, etc.. Have fun with it and let’s represent as many countries as we can!

Gobble Gobble Food Truck (Turkey Burgers and Fries) will be on site to make dinner easy, and there will be sweet treats in the Pre-K hallway. Please bring your own water to drink!

There are two non-mandatory performance opportunities that are presented in four identical, thirty minute sets to provide flexibility to roam as you please. I will be leading world folk songs with the help of Zilker students on stage in the cafeteria and my husband, Mr. Hughes, will be leading percussion pieces in the gym. Ms. Wohlfort and I have been teaching the set lists to all K-5 music students so they can have a sense of familiarity. Once again, there are no pre-determined grade levels expected to perform at any particular time. This is a flexible schedule to come and go as you please.

You are welcome to stay in any area as long as you like, however, please limit to one set of each for playing instruments/standing on stage in order to allow as many students an opportunity to play/sing throughout the evening.

Hello from Mrs. Hughes

I am pleased to finally announce that I have been officially hired as the full time music teacher here at Zilker!!! I am overjoyed at the opportunity to work with such exceptional students, faculty, and parents. Thank you to everyone for your patience and support while I studied and passed my Music Content Exam.

There have been many questions as to this year’s plans and I’ve done my best to keep the wonderful traditions to which you have become accustomed. We will be performing Monster Mash, Purple People Eaters, and Hall of the Mountain King on Tuesday, October 31 outside on the basketball court at 2:30 pm.

Music Memory!

Hello Zilker Parents!

The entire 3rd-5th grade did an incredible job actively listening, understanding, and analyzing the 16 pieces of music on our MM list this year! We had pieces from the renaissance’s El Grillo all the way to a selection from John Williams’ Star Wars Episode 4!

Letters have been sent home (in Thursday folders) to all students who qualified for the next step which is the Hubba Hubba Hard Test which helps me select the 24 students for the Music Memory Team that goes to the district contest.

I’m only offering 2 after school test taking opportunities next week. One is on Tuesday and the other on Thursday. Please pencil one of these two dates on your calendar, or contact me by next Tuesday to make a special arrangement.

Thank you for your support of our Music Education department!

Musically,

Ms. Garcia
